Revision Workshop for WI Courses:
The Campus Writing Program Guidelines specify that WI courses should require “substantive revision for most students.” Revision and drafting are key to the WI experience, yet the pedagogy of both can be difficult to grasp. Should we use peer review in our courses? Should I collect papers, comment on them, and then request revisions based on my comments? How do I get students to do more than correct surface level errors?
This one hour workshop will address the revision requirement for WI courses. We will discuss how to incorporate revision and drafting into our courses in ways that will help students write better as well as ease the management of grading for instructors.
Please join us on October 1 at 1:00 PM in the Conley House for a one hour discussion and workshop on revision.
New Media
We live in the age of new media. Most, if not all, of our writing is done online, with computers, on handheld devices, and in other electronic spaces. Many of us are familiar with weblogs, wikis, message boards, Twitter, Facebook, or other online spaces where people come together in order to share ideas, write collaboratively, and learn from one another. Many of us, as well, feel challenged regarding the pedagogies we might design for such writing. This workshop will feature two MU faculty who work extensively in new media. Dr. John Foley of e-Research, the Department of English, and the Department of Classics and Dr. Clyde Bentley of the Department of Journalism will share their research and work as models for the types of new media writing we might teach in our courses.
Please join us on October 15 at 1:00 PM in the Conley House for a one hour discussion and workshop on new media.
