Scientific Writing Across the Curriculum in the Sciences: Making Global Impact
Wednesday, December 6, 2017
12:00pm - 1:30pm
Conley House, 602 Sanford
Dr. Rainer Glaser, Department of Chemistry, will describe an MU upper division WI-course (3h) in Scientific Writing, that he has adapted for summer programs at the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing (UCAS), at Northwest University in Xi’an (NWU), and at Northwestern Polytechnical University Xi’an (NPU). The adaptation of the semester-long MU seminar to summer block courses taught in English poses numerous challenges because of the drastic differences in scale, the mode of delivery, and the audience background. After eight summers, more than a dozen courses taught and more than a year spent in China, we will describe the evolution of these efforts and share experiences to encourage experts from many STEM fields to contribute in a significant way to international education.
Please feel free to bring your lunch. Coffee and water will be provided.
