CWP congratulates Professor Robin Rotman and her former Writing Intensive student turned current graduate research assistant, Sam Carter, for winning the top prize in the Justice Rudolph Hargrave Writing Competition!
Professor Rotman details the collaborative writing project that led to this award:
“My graduate student Sam Carter and I were awarded first prize in the Justice Rudolph Hargrave Writing Competition for our article “It’s None of Your Business: State Regulation of Tribal Businesses Undermines Sovereignty and Justice.” The competition was sponsored by the Oklahoma Supreme Court. The article examines state attempts to assert regulatory and tax jurisdiction in Indian Country. We argue that it is in the interest of all Americans to hold the federal government to a higher standard in its Constitutional and treaty-bound commitments to tribes. The article will be published in the NYU Journal of Law & Business later this fall. Sam is the first author. She worked so hard on this article for over two years, and I could not be more proud!”
